How to Translate YouTube Video to Other Language.
If you do a lot of YouTube or Skillshare video tutorials, it’s always a good idea to translate them into another language. Or, say, if you found an interesting Russian video on YouTube that you would like to listen to in your native language. Well, here is a great tool to help you rip any YouTube video at the click of a button.
How to translate YouTube videos to another language
The usual way to do this is to load your video into a speech-to-text application and then convert the extracted text to the appropriate language using Google Translate. Alternatively, you can manually make a voiceover or get an app for it. But this is a long and tedious process.
Discover Votch TV, a new web app that instantly duplicates YouTube videos. All you have to do is visit Votch.com and create a free account. Then you provide a link to the YouTube video and choose a new language for your video. It offers over 50 languages to choose from and click the start button when done.
Votch currently only supports YouTube videos, so you cannot upload your local videos
After processing, it splits your video into parts and converts it into small chunks of text. In particular, you can review the text and correct it where necessary. When you’re done, select the dubbing voice (ie male and female), dubbing language and click “Create Duplicate”.
Below is the complete video in English converted to Spanish. The results are not perfect, but they can be used. I tried several videos and languages and would rate Votch 7/10 in terms of accuracy. The pause and context could be better, but for now the results are quite usable. You can also set up individual paragraphs to be duplicated with a male or female voice.
How it works?
If you’re wondering how this tool works internally, here’s a quick rundown. The tool initially downloads your video using wget or some other tool. First, it transcribes your video using APIs like Google Cloud Speech-to-Text. In the next step, the extracted text is converted to the language of your choice using another API such as Google Translate. The final part is now recording the text in a male / female voice.
