How to Download Netflix on Chromebook.
I recently bought an ASUS Chromebook Flip C101 as a travel companion. And from day one, I have been using a web browser to watch Netflix. While I had no problem streaming Netflix from my browser, I recently came across the official Netflix app on my Chromebook. It turns out that the Netflix Android app offers a much better browsing experience through the browser, and not only that, you can also download movies and TV shows and watch American Netflix with a VPN. Sounds fun? Let’s see how to do it.

Before we start, if you are using an early generation Chromebook, be sure to update it or it won’t be able to play Netflix without issue. To update your Chromebook, open the Google Chrome browser, click the wrench icon at the top of the screen, select About Google Chrome, and select Check for Updates.
After updating Chrome, you can play Netflix right in your Chrome browser. However, I would recommend that you install the Netflix Android app for additional features like VPN support and offline downloads.
Pretty much every Chromebook released after 2017 immediately supports the Google Play Store. However, if you bought your Chromebook before 2017, you can check if your Chromebooks support Android apps at this link.
If you find your Chromebook on the list but still can’t find the Google Play Store, you’ll need to enable it in settings. To do this, first update your Chromebook following the instructions I showed you at the beginning of the article. Then, once your Chromebook is up to date, go to the status area and select the Settings gear. Go to Google Play Store and check Enable Google Play Store on your Chromebook . Accept the Google Terms of Service. And now you can use the Google Play Store app.
It is easy to rest. To download Netflix on your Chromebook, follow these steps.
1. Open the Google Play Store on your Chromebook.
2. Search for Netflix and install the app.
3. After installation, open the Netflix app and sign in to your account.
4. Then click the Download button at the bottom of the screen.
5. Click on the “Find something to download” button in the center of the screen
6. Find the series or movie you want to download.
7. Click the download button next to the movie or episode you want to download (looks like an arrow).
8. To remove an item from the download list, click the delete button (looks like an “x”) next to the movie or show.
How to download American Netflix on a Chromebook
It turns out that you can also use selective VPNs to watch American Netflix on your Chromebook and even download them for offline use. Not all free VPNs work with Netflix, however some paid VPNs like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Smart DNS Proxy usually work fine. I would recommend that you confirm this with a customer representative before paying for a VPN service.
I used the Smart DNS Proxy VPN app from the Google Play store, tried several VPN servers and after a few tries it worked for me. I was able to watch American Netflix (or rather “US Office”) on a Chromebook. Not only that, I was even able to download episodes for offline use.
Netflix proxy error
If you encounter Netflix or VPN proxy error, simply uninstall the Netflix app and reinstall it from the Google Play store with Smart DNS Proxy VPN enabled. This will make Netflix believe that you are browsing from the states, you can double-check this by clicking the register button after downloading the app, if you see Netflix plans in US dollars, everything is fine. Log in to your account while the VPN is running in the background and you can download Netflix shows as well as watch them.
